Yoga for the Heart
Updated: 6 days ago
The spiritual heart chakra (heart centre) is among the most powerful energy centres on the physical earth plane. This fourth chakra is the bridge between the higher and lower energy centres and connects the body to the spirit.
The Heart Centre and It’s Significance
An open heart centre gives us the opportunity to move beyond the lower three chakras, beyond the ego, and into a frequency of unconditional love and divine expression.
Science says that life originated in the ocean. In much of Indian mythology, the ocean (samudra) is thought to be the source of all life. In the body, the ocean (samudra) of the heart is believed to be the very source of consciousness and it, in turn, is the origin of everything in this world. ‘The metaphor of the ocean of the heart suggests an all-inclusive totality, incorporating everything from the outermost galaxy down to the finest grain of sand. In this sense, the ocean of the heart is boundless and immeasurable. The heart is identified with absolute consciousness-inexhaustible, all encompassing, and beyond calculation.’ - Tias Little Why It’s Important to Have an Open Heart Centre
When our spiritual heart, this incredible energy centre, is blocked or closed, we may begin to experience negative feelings and emotions like anger, confusion, unforgiving thoughts, hateful thoughts, jealousy and selfishness. We may also experience negative tendencies like an uncaring attitude, a lack of feeling, always being in need, substance abuse and abuse of love. Negative thoughts and personality changes often manifest as physical or mental health issues like heart problems, circulatory disorders, anxiety, depression, anger problems and conditions related to breathing such as asthma and bronchitis. The heart is unified with the breath, but that’s a whole new blog topic, one that I will write about very soon. In this post, we will concentrate on unblocking the heart centre, which in some circumstances can get blocked. I will share five ways in which we can work towards opening and balancing the heart energy centre.
Five Ways to Open the Heart Centre
1. Yoga for the Heart When it comes to opening the heart centre, yoga for the heart is a perfect place to start. It allows the prana (life force) to move more freely around the body bringing balance and releasing blockages in the process.
In my new LIVE weekly stream, I shared a heart opening yoga session and meditation that’s targeted towards opening our heart in case it’s closed off and making us feel depleted in this sacred space. Here’s the video below.
2. Chakra Affirmations
Repeating heart chakra affirmations can encourage our heart space to open up. It helps generate loving kindness towards ourselves. It’s very useful and powerful.
Many years ago, I was introduced to Louise Hay's work. She has left a wealth of knowledge on affirmations. You can see the link to one of her books here. I have this book and I have found it very useful. I will highly recommend it to you if you have trust in metaphysical meanings of physical illness.
Here are a few of Louise Hay's chosen affirmations for the heart from her book 'You Can Heal Your life.'
'My heart beats to the rhythm of love.'
'I bring joy back to the centre of my heart. I express love to all.'
'Joy, joy, joy! I lovingly allow joy to flow through my mind, body and experience.
Trying aromatherapy oils that are associated with Anahata Chakra is a very useful method that may be helpful in opening the heart centre. Melissa, bergamot, geranium and clary sage can all be helpful in opening up and activating the heart chakra.
Important caution - Please be careful when using aromatherapy oils. Make sure they are suitable for you and follow all precautions while using them. Bergamot should never be used during pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding. It should not be used before going out into the sun.
When using oils, you can create a mixture with a base oil. You could use say almond oil as a base and add your heart chakra oils to it.
Gemstones can help open the heart centre. Gemstones recommended for Anahata Chakra are Rose Quartz, Jade, Emerald, Green Aventurine, Kunsite and Watermelon Tourmaline.
When it comes to stones, make an intuitive choice and select the one that you are drawn to. When you have chosen your gemstone, you can place it on your heart at any time. It’s a good idea to place it on your heart during relaxation.
Music is my final recommendation for opening the heart centre. Listen to beautiful, uplifting music. Frequencies have a powerful effect on our body, especially the cells. So, music can have a stunning impact on the heart, allowing it to open and clear any blockages. The frequency of love is 639 Hz.
I hope that this post was helpful and it can help you reside in compassionate and unconditional love, share empathy and generate generous radiating warmth towards others on this earth, right now and also forever.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post and please share it if you find it useful and think that it could help others. Namaste, love and hugs! ❤️
