Muladhara Chakra also known as the root chakra is based at the perineum at the bottom of the spine.
Our journey through the Chakras starts here!
This chakra is associated with the Earth element, grounding us to the earth and connecting us to our ancestors and all that we are. It helps us to be rooted like the roots of a plants would be in the soil of the ground.
The colour RED is connected to this chakra, red is the colour of blood and because of this historically it was associated with danger, courage and sacrifice. The colour red has links to anger, heat, fire and can also be symbolised as passion, sexuality and love.
Finding balance within this chakra is extremely beneficial not only to physical health but also mental. This chakra is where our ‘Fight or Flight’ to survive is governed so its important we find balance so we are not in a stressed state constantly. As they say stress is one of the biggest killers (more reading on stress).
The three main nadis meet at Muladhara, ida, pingala and sushumna. The downward facing triangle indicted the downward movement of energy and the three of these nadis.
The opening of sushumna is called brahma-dvara and this is where Kundalini rests like a coiled dormant serpent (see in picture above). When we begin working on this Muladhara its energy can be unlocked and kundalini starts to rise up the channel of sushumna.
Being unbalanced within this Chakra can lead to many different physical and emotional aliments.
The physical connections with Muladhara are the feet, legs, spine, bones, teeth and nails. This chakra is also the ruler of blood, circulation the anus and rectum. When this chakra is unbalanced physical problems can present themselves such as skeletal problems, constipation, piles, circulation issues and blood disease as well as other issues.
On an emotional aspect when we have an imbalanced within this energy centre we may feel we are not connected to nature, insecure, fearful, possessive along with among other mental imbalances. But on the other hand when we are balanced within this area we can feel some beautiful mental aspects such as the desires to be in nature, cooking, feeling in touch with family, people and animals, trusting, secure, physical, sensual and generous.
Doesn’t this make you want to be in balance always 🙂
